Braised Tofu Skin

A classic Chinese vegetarian dish made with tofu skin rolls, braised in a savory soy-based sauce.

  1. Slice the “suji” (tofu skin) into 1–2 cm thick rounds.
  2. Pan-fry the slices in oil until both sides are golden brown. Set aside.
  3. In the same pan, sauté ginger slices briefly.
  4. Add light soy sauce, dark soy sauce, oyster sauce, sugar, and optional star anise.
  5. Pour in water or stock to cover the slices halfway.
  6. Return the fried suji (tofu skin) slices to the pan and simmer for 10–15 minutes on low heat until sauce thickens and absorbs.
  7. Serve warm with rice or noodles.
